South Exceeded All State Education Test Standards!!Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
8/21/2009 9:50 AM

Good news! South met all state reading, math, and language usage goals and made Adequate Yearly Progress. Overall,

• 89% of our students were proficient or advanced in reading, a gain of 11%.

• 82% of our students were proficient or advanced in math, a gain of 4%

The state is changing how it calculates whether a school has reached its goals. Under this new indexing:

• 93% of our students reached the reading goal

• 88% of our students reached the math goal

Because, we missed goals in the past our status is School Improvement Year 1*.  Our plan is to again reach all state goals so that next year our school will no longer be identified for improvement.

We want to improve and are finding success with the following steps:

• Biweekly staff development focused on learning strategies to support students through differentiated instruction.

• Implementation of school-wide math practice during advisory time.

• Academic support class for students that provide additional math support,

• Target interventions aimed at students who struggle

South Middle School made tremendous gains 11 percent in reading and 4 percent in math.  South staff recognizes the value of extracurricular activities and provides students a broad array of activities to participate in.  The connection between athletics and academics creates lifelong learners with a commitment to education.
