The research
is clear, when it comes to high schools, smaller is better. In
About 120 students make up a small
learning community. These students take their core classes — English, math,
science, and social studies — together in their freshman and sophomore years.
Making this journey with them are a core of dedicated, caring teachers.
Upper classmen select from a rich array of
choices to help them realize their dreams for “Grade 13” or life beyond high
school. Those choices include career-oriented academies, rigorous
college-level courses, professional technical programs, general studies, and
more.
In
Thanks to robust, relevant professional technical
programs, our graduates are
ready for work, trade school, and college.
Our professional technical courses use
industry standards and experts from our community’s workforce to ensure that
the equipment, course materials, and instruction reflect the real world.
Many of our students leave our professional
technical programs with industry certifications in areas such as technology and
health professions.
Students in these programs often leave
campus as juniors and seniors to learn in industry-based internships and earn
college credit thanks to our higher education partnerships.
When showcased by a local television station,
our innovative academies were described as “schools of the future” because of
their focus on individual attention and providing relevant instruction.
Our academies
blend the small learning community structure with a specialized
academic and professional program.
Academies are designed to meet the needs
of all students from those with straight A’s to those who struggle.
Students in academies pursue a course of
study that allows them to complete graduation
requirements and specialize, yet still have time for other electives like
music.
Academy
students complete internships, community service, and can earn college credit.
