Art Club (Mr. Lewis)

We are still finalizing plans for the art club, but it will meet the first A day of each week.  We will be working on group projects as well as individual pursuits.

BESO (Mrs. Flores and Mrs. Housel)

This stands for Bilingual Education Student Organization.  This organization is now 7 years strong.  It was originally started by a grant from Boise State University to promote cultural diversity and prepare students for college.  We are in partnership with our parent BESO organization at Boise State.  Through them we are able to make contacts with college students who help our students see the realities of going to college.  NHS members need to be committed to their education and goals with great focus on college bound. They are required to have a minimum of 2.5 GPA each semester and agree to seek tutoring if it drops.  Also there is a requirement for community involvements in the form of volunteering time to various community needs and projects.  Members attend workshops and conferences, like the Hispanic Youth Symposium to help them with collage scholarships.  They work on developing leadership skills.  They work on financial aid applications and college admittance. We sponsor three major school wide events: Halloween Dance, Talent Show, and Cinco de Mayo celebration, every year.  We all know that college is not easy but if you have the support from an organization like BESO you will have a great start.

I want to invite any Nampa High student who is interested in joining an organization that is focused on future goals, community involvement, celebrating diversity and preparing themselves to be future leaders to join this wonderful organization.

BESO meets in room 126 every Wednesday after school.  For special events we may add another day to meet depending on the activities or preparations needed for the event.

BESO Sponsored Actitivies

BESO’s Halloween dance – October 26 in the school cafeteria from 8:30-11:00pm

The organization serves students who are currently, or were previously enrolled, in a business education program at a secondary or post-secondary institution.

As a member you have the opportunity to participate in regional competition during January.  If you qualify the opportunity to continue to compete at the state and national level is also available to you.  Membership dues are $20.

Cheerleading (Ms. Watson)

We are doing really well this year.  During the summer we went to camp and won first place in all the divisions.  We have 27 girls on the teams this year.  We are hoping to go to competition and do well there.

Challengers Boxing Club (Mr. Babcock)

My club is called “Challengers Boxing Club” and we are located at “Sidekicks” martial arts at 204 3rd Avenue South Nampa. That would be in-between the one ways directly across from the civic center. We train in the back (Note; you have to take your shoes off while walking on the carpet. Karate people train with their shoes off and do not want to step on anything that might get brought in from the street.) at 6:00 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our dues are $3 a night or $25 a month. The money goes toward equipment and club activities. We are not connected with the school other than the fact that I work here and some students train with us.

Challengers B. C. is a non-profit club that stresses the art of boxing and not “fighting”. We train amateurs and pros along with any of the martial arts guys that want to improve on their “stand-up”. Ages 8 to 80, male or female, are all welcome. Our gym is a neutral place so there is no racial discrimination, gang behavior or anything else that could be threatening or demeaning. Nothing even close is tolerated because we are all there to box – nothing else. I train champions that box and anyone that comes to do else wise can use the exit door.

We are currently registered with USA Boxing and uphold all of the rules of the same. I am a level III National official and the current Chief of Officials here in Idaho. Amateur boxing events are generally held on Saturdays most weekends during the school year. Our next local show will be this weekend at the Boys and Girls club in Garden City. Challengers have three or four boxers that are looking for match-ups.

Color Guard (Ms. Watson)

We have 29 girls on our team and are doing very well.  This year we have a rifle team.  Nampa has not had a rifle team since 1989.  They are doing really well.  We will perform at all the home football games and 3 to 4 competitions that will be in Oct. We hope to defend our title.

German Club (Ms. Zornik)

German Club includes students from all three Nampa high schools.  Members meet every other month for a combined meeting and seasonal activity.  Oktoberfest is celebrated in October, Nikolaustag in early December, Fasching in February, and a German Food Fest takes place in April.  Students pay minimal dues to cover expenses of the activities.  Officers are elected at the Oktoberfest and guide the year’s activities.

Leo Club (Ms. Pickens)

In 1957, the Glenside Lions Club, Pennsylvania, USA sponsored the world’s first Leo club, the Abington High School Leo Club with 35 students.

In October 1967, the Lions Clubs International (LCI) Board of Directors adopted the Leo Club Program as an official program of the association.  The objective of the Leo Club Program is:

“… To provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.”

Leo clubs fulfill this objective every day and are an asset to the community.  Leo club activities and projects enhance the community and help young people develop and practice leadership, organization and social skills.  Leo club involvement can instill in young people a lifetime commitment to helping others.  If interested, the Leo Club meets every Thursday that falls on an “A” Day.

Leo Motto

Leadership:  Leos develop skills as organizers and motivators of their peers.

Experience:  Leos learn the importance of cooperation through community service.

Opportunity: Young people are given an opportunity to excel, to develop positive character traits and to receive recognition for their   contributions to the community.

National Honor Society (Mr. Johnson)

The National Honor Society involves participants from the junior and senior classes. Students maintain a GPA of 3.75 or above, voluntarily contribute service to their community, promote school activities and leadership, and demonstrate through example the ideals of character, ethics, and respect for others.

Rodeo Club (Mrs. Duby)

The Rodeo Club is for students that are involved in the western life.  Students participate in fund raising to support them in local, state and national high school rodeos.  They are members of the National High School Rodeo Association and participants in District II High School Rodeo. The rodeo club meets monthly and includes students from the three Nampa School District High Schools.

SAGE (Ms. Gutwig)

This elective course is designed to be a hands-on production course. You will learn the fundamentals of layout, copywriting, photography, advertising, and public relations. Your work will appear in the SAGE. The course teaches students to think independently, to work cooperatively with others, to take credit for a job well done and responsibility for a job that could have been done better. Students will learn the importance of meeting deadlines and asking intelligent, thought provoking questions. Deadlines are an extremely important part of the field of journalism and will be strictly adhered to in this course. This course is demanding. Students who are creative, organized and outgoing will do particularly well in this class.

Spirit Club (Ms. Watson)

Anyone can be in it and everyone that is has a wonderful time.  We promote good spirit for the school and cheer our teams to victory.  Last year we had 400 students in spirit club.  We also had red outs at every game it was AWESOME!!!!

Team-S (Mr. Kusterer)

‘TEAM+S’—our national science competition team. (‘TEAM+S” stands for Tests in Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science.) Our team at NHS has consistently placed in the top three in the State of Idaho for the past 5 consecutive years. Last year, out of 1,492 teams nationally, the NHS team placed 27th; not too bad, huh? If they were to ever win national ranking (top 3 teams), there are huge scholarships available ($50,000+); that is where we really want to be!
