Heath Thomason, CEO/Principal

 

Mr. Thomason has worked in the Nampa School District since 1998.  He came to the district after a two-year stint in Melba and one year in California.  He graduated from Albertson College of Idaho with a degree in Physical Education and Reading.  He completed his Master’s degree in Education at the University of Idaho.  In the classroom, his teaching assignment was focused on Reading, and various PE classes.  He began working in Administration in 2000 as a part-time Dean, and later that year as an Athletic Director.  He has worked as a Lead Administrator since 2004.  His focus is on the curriculum, instruction, and assessment in our cluster which consists of 6 elementary schools, East Valley Middle School, and Columbia.  He looks forward to another great year at Columbia High School!

 

Sam Gunderson, Lead Building Administrator

 

Mr. Gunderson has worked in administration in the Nampa district for the past five years at East Valley, West, and Nampa High Schools.  Prior to joining Nampa, he was a teacher in Oregon.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish, master’s degree in education, and his administrator’s certificate from Portland State University.  His focus is the daily management of the campus; making sure that the teachers’ needs are being taken care of; and maintaining a safe and orderly campus. 

 

Dan Cochran, Building Administrator

 

This is his 18th year in education and seventh in the Nampa School District.  He spent his first nine years teaching English in middle schools.  His family moved with him to Idaho from Oregon in 1985.  After spending a year in Boise, they moved to Nampa.  Both his children have attended Nampa schools, his son graduating from Nampa High in 2005.

 

Jewels Carpenter, SPED Department, Instructional Coaching

 

Mrs. Carpenter has worked in the Nampa School District since 2000.  She was the Academy of Health Professions Coordinator and also taught Introduction to Health Professions, Sports Medicine, Personal Training and Medical Terminology at both Skyview and Nampa High School.  Mrs. Carpenter then worked for the State Division of Professional-Technical Education as the State Health Professions Education Program Manager.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Sonoma State University in Kinesiology/Athletic Training, and her Masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Idaho.  Mrs. Carpenter’s responsibilities at Columbia High School include Instructional Coaching and Special Education Administration.

 

Phil Diplock, Dean of Students

 

Phil has been in the Nampa school district for 8 years and has worked at East Valley Middle and Columbia High School.  Phil is a Southern California native where he played college baseball at Fullerton College in Orange County.  He attained his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Ashford University.  Phil went on to become a member of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and spent 10 years as a police officer.  Moving to Idaho in 2002 he began working in education and coaching baseball at Kuna High School and then becoming the first head coach of baseball at Columbia.  Coach Diplock's young and hardworking team won the 4A State Title in that first year bringing the first ever State Championship banner to CHS.  He was the head of school security in 2006 & 2007 before taking over the Dean's position in 2008, where he is currently assigned.

Randy Potter, Athletic Director

 

Randy is an Eastern Oregon University Graduate of 1986.  He started his teaching and coaching career in Kimberly, Idaho.  He moved to Homedale, Idaho to teach and coach, along with being the Athletic Director.  This is his fourth year as the Athletic Director at Columbia High School and is his 23rd year of education. The caring Staff, Coaches, and Administrators have made coming to work at Columbia, a very positive place to be each and every day!!  Randy and his wife, Kathy, have three kids Brady, Kiley and Morgan.
