Heart & Soul: Teachers matter in Nampa

More than 870 teachers serve the students in the Nampa School District. From the classroom to the district office, teachers are the heart and soul of our district.

Our new teachers aren’t left alone to find their way. We provide an assistance program that offers training through the first years of teaching and a peer assistant in each school to lend the support of an experienced professional.

Veteran teachers are attracted to Nampa for our non-adversarial relationship and focus on collaboration. That philosophy reflects our view that teachers are important partners in the management and operations of the district and schools. We value our professional teachers association for their leadership and advocacy for the profession. The Nampa Education Association president serves on district leadership teams and provides an important voice for the needs of teachers.

To ensure our guaranteed curriculum is relevant to the needs of teachers and students, we ask a team of teachers to take a year or two off of classroom instruction to serve as “Teachers on Assignment.”  These TOAs, based at the district office, lead teams to review standards, curriculum, and instructional materials.

At the school level, teachers serve on building administrative teams that provide them a voice in site-based decision making, because of this our teachers are a part of the continuous improvement process.
