Civic minded: Our students care about their community

From our elementary schools to our high schools, students care about the needy in their community and take an active role in supporting different projects. Here are some highlights:

Annual Food drive

Annually all schools are involved in a food drive for the needy in our community. In December 2008, Nampa students donated more than 58,000 food items to the Salvation Army to feed the needy in the community. That represents an average of four cans per student in a district that serves 14,000 students, more than 50 percent of whom live in poverty themselves.

Festival of Trees

Two of our programs – the Two Roads GED Alternative School and the 21st Century After school Programs – submitted trees in December 2008 for auction in the community’s annual Festival of Trees. The auction benefits the Meals on Wheels Program.

Veterans Day

Each November, our high schools play host to assemblies, concerts, and receptions to recognize and honor veterans in our community.

Challenge Day

This year, some of our schools participated in Rachel’s Challenge and Challenge Day.

Mayor’s Youth Council

Students from our high schools serve on the Nampa Mayor’s Youth Council. They have helped promote seat belt awareness and other projects to benefit the community.
